Introduction to Workspace ONE UEM Device Management Modes
Employees use a wide array of IT devices for employees to do their jobs. These devices include corporate-owned, employee-owned and third-party devices owned by contracting companies. All have different levels of security.
Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) provides several modes to manage devices with varying levels of control for the administrator and privacy for the user. Read this blog to learn about the options and uses for Workspace ONE UEM.
What are the device management modes in Workspace ONE UEM?
Workspace ONE UEM offers four main device management modes: UEM Managed, OS Partitioned, Hub Registered, and App Level management. UEM Managed provides the highest level of control for administrators, requiring users to enroll their devices for access to work applications. OS Partitioned separates work and personal data, while Hub Registered allows users to access applications without full management. App Level management focuses on specific productivity apps without requiring device-level management.
How does UEM Managed differ from Hub Registered mode?
UEM Managed mode offers extensive control for administrators, allowing them to enforce policies, monitor compliance, and manage device settings. In contrast, Hub Registered mode provides limited management capabilities, prioritizing user privacy. In this mode, users can access corporate resources without the need for full device management, but administrators cannot push applications or retrieve detailed device information.
When should I use App Level management?
App Level management is ideal for situations where users need access to specific applications without the need for full device management. For example, contractors or temporary workers who require email access can use Workspace ONE Boxer in standalone mode. This approach simplifies the user experience while still allowing for some level of data protection through policies applied to the app.
